Unspoken Sermons Third Series - Christian Classics Ethereal Library George MacDonald. I love the writings of George MacDonald. He is known as the "Father of Modern Fantasy" and C.S. Lewis considered him to be his "master." No doubt he influenced Tolkien as well. His fantasy stories are hauntingly beautiful, mysterious and meaningful. He was as popular and well known as his comtemporary, Mark Twain, in his lifetime. He was also a preacher/theologian. He stayed in trouble with the institutional church of his native Scotland, but oh! What riches he left behind for us!
